You may find that making people know about your website is a hard task but you have to believe that making them stay and browse your posts is harder task. This article will give you useful tips about bounce rate and its reflection about our website and how to decrease it.

What is bounce rate?

You are working hard on marketing strategy to increase the visitors on your website. But all this hard working may not affect the bounce rate. This bounce rate is the expression about visiting people to other pages from related content to the landing page.

In other way, When a user visits your site on any page and leaves without visiting other pages on the same domain, that’s a bounce. Your bounce rate is the percentage of all users who enter and exit on the same page, without any clicks to other pages on your site.

High bounce could mean you don’t have an attractive, well organized landing page. You might not have a landing page at all or creating CTA (Call To Action) confusion on your main home page.

What is pageview?

When a user visits your page or the number of pages viewed by the visitors is known as the pageview.

Each time a user visits a Web page, it is called a pageview. Page views, also written “pageviews,” are tracked by website monitoring applications to record a website’s traffic. The more page views a website has, the more traffic it is receiving. However, since a pageview is recorded each time a Web page is loaded, a single user can rack up many page views on one website. Therefore, unique page views are commonly tracked to log the number of different visitors a website receives in a given time period.

For a better CPM (Cost Per IMpression) and CTA (Call To Action), you should have low bounce rate and better pageview and that what we will explain as follows.

Is reducing bounce rate absolutely essential?

It depends on a few things.

For SEO purposes, it is said that the higher your bounce rate the further down the search results your web pages will end up.

So, having a reasonably low bounce rate is probably important for improving your rankings, naturally.

That being said, asides from search engine rankings and whatnot, wouldn’t it be great if you could give your new visitors an opportunity to take something away from your website if they decided to leave?

I mean, don’t  make them leave empty-handed because it will be much loss.

What’s a good bounce rate?

Well the general rule of thumb is that:

  • 80%+ is very bad.
  • 70 – 80% is poor.
  • 50 – 70% is average.
  • 30 – 50% is excellent.
  • 20% or below is likely a tracking error (due to duplicate analytics code, incorrect implementation of events tracking, third-party addons such as live-chat).

While the above metrics are a good to start, bounce rate varies across industries and the type of content you have.

Improve your content’s readability

If you are providing good, useful, large content, you need to be sure of its readability which is part of your user experience. You need to care about the punctuation and easy to read formatting.

  • You need to divide the post by heading and subheading to make it more clear.
  • You need to use bullets to explain points and make it obvious.
  • Use images, screenshots and quotes to clarify your view.
  • Ask a lot of questions in your content, to give readers an invitation to participate, instead of just read.
  • End your content with a subheading about conclusion. This tells the reader to quickly read the last few words and take action. Make your conclusion actionable.

And if you are using Yoast SEO to take care of focus words, it will help you about readability.

Improve blog design

You need to improve blog design according to the search engines and SEO basis. In wordpress, there are lots of wordpress theme which you can use on your blog and site. Before using theme just check some basic features to optimize your site

  • Mobile Responsive Theme.
  • Built-in SEO.
  • Speed Optimized.
  • Scheme Integrated.
  • Neat and Clean Design.
  • Easy Setup and regular Updates etc.

Avoid popups

Most people still hate popups. Among site owners and marketers, it’s an intensely debated topic: whether to use popups or to avoid them. You may use popups to collect your mail list as quickly as possible but for long term work, this type of popups will not support you. It will increase the bounce rate.

According to statistics, only 14% of consumers will consider responding to a popup ad, compared to 51% who respond positively to email offers.

Also popup contents are not mobile friendly which cause poor site performance. So avoid them for the good of your content.

Post interlinking

Interlinking is one of the best points to raise your SEO and also for decreasing bounce rate. If you connect between your posts with intelinks, that will attract your visitors and make them browse more useful articles to raise pageview.

WordPress can help you by providing the possible internal links for your blog and improving search.

There are plugins that make it easy to link between your articles. Thirsty Affiliate helps to manage all the external and internal links according to your need.

Create a compelling Call To Action

After you’ve attracted visitors with your headline and built interest with the content, don’t lose them with a weak CTA. The action you don’t want is an increase in the bounce rate. You want every site visitor to buy, or at least think about it.

Whatever you do, make sure that your CTA is compelling. It should compel users to click and see what’s on the other side.

Remember that great calls to action will improve usability.  When that happens, your ideal customers will gladly stay on your site. Every second spent on your site, due to an enhanced CTA, will improve your pageview rate and lower your bounce rate.

  • Tell the visitors with some clear ways what you want from them.
  • Make the action easy as possible as you can.
  • Free and discounts can attract a lot of people.
  • Fonts and attractive designs make it easier for customers to take decisions.
  • Use numbers and statistics to impress your customers.

Improve your site’s speed

According to Strangeloop, a one-second delay in loading website page can cost you 7% of sales, 11% fewer pageviews, and 16% decrease in customer satisfaction and all of the previous increase bounce rate.

Using tools like Pingdom and Google Page Speed, you can optimize every landing page on your site.

Also to speed up your website, you should optimize your images, use a CDN, add better caching, and consider switching to a faster hosting provider.

Keep your blog fresh with interesting content

According to HubSpot, businesses that update their blogs with fresh content regularly will generate 126% more leads more than those who don’t. However, it’s important to differentiate powerful content from the right content.

Powerful content may attract your readers, but it may not solve their problems. In contrast, the right content will wow them, but it’ll also give them actionable tips to implement and produce results for them.

Remember that readers are very clever and can see through deceptive and manipulative tactics. But, they’ll also remember every action step that you take and the words that you use. They’ll come to trust you.

Involve popular posts in sidebar

Your sidebar is one of the most visible parts of your site so use it to display the links to your popular blog posts. This will stimulate web visitors to click on those links and read popular posts on your site.

Use the WordPress Popular Posts plugin, which is a feature-rich widget that shows the most popular posts on your sidebar with ease. Add thumbnails, customize the types of posts you want to show, set a time range, add a list of popular posts, and use different versions of it in other footer and sidebar areas. This will help you to attract the visitors to click on more posts and browse more on your website to decrease bounce rate and increase pageview.

Use videos for more engagement

Videos have highly engagement and grab attention more than text or even images. You can use a fullscreen video as a background, or add it next to your call of action.

Videos are powerful. You can use animations, music, audio, narration, colors, and so many different forms of persuasion tools.

In addition of your blog, videos will give you the land on youtube for more revenue.

Target high value keywords

Keywords can make or break your content marketing campaign. If you want to improve search performance, start targeting high value keywords, because that’s what people are searching for the most.

According to LinchPin SEO, a perfect high value keyword sits at the intersection of four important metrics:

  • Traffic value.
  • Conversion value.
  • Persona value.
  • Brand value.

Attractive meta description

A lot of companies don’t optimize their meta descriptions for search users. As a result, their click through rate (CTR) continues to decline.

You may think that it wasn’t that important but it is. When users type a keyword into Google search, any word that matches the search term is bolded, to differentiate it from the rest and to tell the searcher to consider that result.

The meta description is an HTML tag, which looks like this in the HTML code for the page:

<meta name=”description” content=”A page’s description,
usually one or two sentences.”/>

Search engines say there is no direct ranking benefit from the meta description. They don’t use it in their ranking algorithm. But there is an indirect benefit: Google uses click-through-rate (CTR) as a way of working out whether you’re a good result. If more people click on your result, Google considers you to be a good result and will – based on your position – move you up the ranks.

Create Multiple Landing Pages

The more attractive landing pages, the more increasing in your pageview rate which increases the click through rate (CTR) which is one of the numbers that needed to be considered on google search.

Once you have more landing pages, first make sure that they’re easy to navigate, then link to all of them from your homepage. You might even link to the separate landing pages on your navigation menu. You might have higher bounce if people don’t quickly find what they hoped for. Multiple landing pages help here.

You may not need to execute all the previous points but the more you care about the content and website on search engines, the more revenues you can get. Please, tell us about your opinion and if you have other points.
